Visitors and locals have already flocked to newly opened Maputo -Katembe suspension bridge, Africa’s longest suspension bridge with 3 km or 1.86 miles long designed and build by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), China’s biggest state-owned company over four years which drastically reduce the travel time between Maputo to Kwazulu-Natal province of South Africa. Before the construction of the bridge, Matadi Bridge of Democratic Republic of Congo ( DRC) was the longest suspension bridge of Africa.
The reason is simple the much awaited suspension bridge connecting capital city Maputo Bay in the North to southern town of Katembe is a part of Mozambique government’s ambitious infrastrual projects with the help of massive Chinese investment.
The project was delayed because of rehabilitation complications mainly in the northern side of the bridge.Mozambique government introduced toll tax to recover the cost which is around US $ 780 million.
Earlier, locals of Maputo areas were dependent on ferry services But they often faced difficulties due to irregularities of the service.
