Contrary to popular believes, feral cats are not the ideal killer of rats, According to a recent study published in Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution, they prefer to hunt small birds, frogs or others small prey enough to catch.
After watching innumerious videos at a New York City waste recycling cente taken over 79 days the researchers came to conclusion that cats are not prolific killers as far as the rats are concerned.Their success rate is not enough to termed them as prolific rat killers. But they are more comfortable with lizards, voles, chipmunks, birds, snakes, frogs and other defenseless creatures.
Study’s researchers also found that presence of cats cautioned the rats and they spent less time in the open and prefered shelters. But further study is needed to understand the ‘chemistry’ between car and rats.
