Venezuelan Opposition leader Juan Guaido on Wednesday (23 January) swore himself as acting president denouncing President Nicolas Maduro, who faces growing international criticism for undermining democracy.
The United States recognized Guaido shortly after he declared himself acting president.Several rightist Latin American governments, including Brazil, Colombia,Argentina, also said that they also recognized Guaido.
On the other hand, few leftist governments including Cuba,Bolivia continue to back Maduro. Mexico under Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said they will follow a non-intervention policy.
Although, Defense Minister of Venezuela, Vladimir Padrino declared that armed forces of support for Maduro in a tweet on Wednesday, saying Venezuela’s armed forces don’t any self-proclaimed president.
