I do understand that Akagera National Park is an amazing national park, which is why I wanted to visit and I absolutely loved the safari experience.
Akagera National Park located in Northeastern part of the Republic of Rwanda (the landlocked country lying south of the Equator in east-central Africa) along country’s border with Tanzania.Kibungu is the nearest town.
The park got it’s name from River Kagera also spelled Akagera.Akagera National park covers a area of 1,200sq kilometers full of tiny lakes and swamps. These lakes and swamps are fed mainly from the River Kagera, most remote headstream of Nile River and largest tributary of Lake Victoria.
The park is surrounded by hills with green plantations.
Boat trip on lake Thema It was amazing boat trip. Water birds, giant hippos and crocodiles and much more. The lake is filled with blue water surrounded by lush green mountains.
Here I want to share an important information. The park is open to visitors through out the year. But the best time to visit the park between June to mid September during drier season.
The best camping is Karenge Bush Camp but it is seasonal set up for three months.Visitors can get basic amenities like bedding, mat floors, solar lights, camp chairs, warm waters.
The safari experience is once a life time experience and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I enjoyed a spectacular day by watching spotted hyanes, zebras, elephants and obviously a lionness. And it’s just two hours journey from Rwandan capital Kigali.
