Ifrah Ahmed was smuggled to Ireland, where she applied for asylum. She is now a high-profile supporter of the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and a global advocate against female genital mutilation.
Ifrah was born in Somalia and fled the country when war broke out in 2006. She was 17 years old at the time. She managed to flee the smugglers and was granted asylum in Ireland. She has dedicated her life to ending female genital mutilation (FGM) and providing integration support to newly arriving youth migrants and refugees from Africa in Ireland since moving in IrelandIfrah founded The United Youth of Ireland in 2010, an NGO that helps young immigrants and refugees start businesses, settle in Ireland, and educates them about the value of human rights.Ifrah founded The Ifrah Foundation in Ireland in 2010 after becoming a victim of FGM. She advocates for the abolition of FGM in Somalia. She was successful in getting legislation passed in Ireland in 2012 prohibiting the practise
