Lima: Due to the health emergency that we are experiencing for Covid-19, the economic crisis is seriously affecting the whole world and Peru is no stranger to this reality. Poverty in the country worsens with the passing of days and with it the vulnerability of populations in conditions of poverty.
The Fundación Teletón, which promotes an annual fundraising event to help the rehabilitation of hundreds of children from the San Juan de Dios clinic, puts itself at the service of all Peruvians in this situation. Therefore, the San Juan de Dios Foundation joins the Peruvian Episcopal Conference, through its initiative “Give them some food yourselves” (Mt 14,16), as part of the program “For a Peru without hunger”: a great crusade of national solidarity which intends to provide food to the most vulnerable families across the country.
This campaign, according to the note sent to Fides, is an invitation to solidarity of all Peruvians. With the donations obtained, it will be possible to supply 100 parochial canteens, distributed in the 46 ecclesiastical jurisdictions, which are located in all regions of Peru and which are a point of reference every day for 10 thousand people. In Peru 233 thousand cases of Covid 19 have been confirmed with 6,860 deaths.
