In the last few days, over 80,000 people have crossed the border into Moldova to flee the turmoil in Ukraine.
According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the majority of refugees are women with children and the elderly, who are frequently the most vulnerable in conflict and displacement situations.
With an estimated 265,000 pregnant women in Ukraine, 80,000 of whom are expected to give birth in the next three months, UNFPA is stepping up its life-saving efforts to ensure that all women and girls are safeguarded from violence and that babies are born safely and with the best possible care.
Dignity kits, which include period pads, are also being distributed by the organisation.
