Violence Erupts in Israel,Gaza and the West Bank, Resulting in Further Deaths

UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric during a press conference in New York on 14 May.He told reporters that United Nations Secretary General believes only a long-term diplomatic solution will bring permanent peace to the region.

Several strong waves of projectile fire targeted Ashkelon, Ashdod, Beersheba, Sderot, and the surrounding areas overnight Friday-Saturday, putting cities and communities in southern Israel ‘under siege’.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, the Israeli military has been striking a variety of targets in Gaza since midnight, including rocket-launching sites, terror cells, and a Hamas intelligence centre.

Israeli media reports one of the rockets launched from Gaza in the middle of the night landed in the Ashdod port, hitting a fuel reservoir and causing a massive explosion that sent large flames into the night sky. In neither incident, there were no confirmation of injuries so far.

On the other hand Palestine state news agency WAFA reports,Israeli warplanes attacked their home in Gaza City’s Shati refugee camp late last night, killing a Palestinian family of seven members.

With the exception of a months-old baby who miraculously survived the Israeli attack, Israeli F16 fighter jets bombed the Abu Hatab family’s three-story home with a heavy bombardment of missiles, killing all seven members of the family. In addition, the attack wounded 25 other Palestinian civilians in nearby houses.
