UNHCR has airlifted 95 tonnes of emergency supplies to Liberia. The UNHCTR chartered Boeing 747 cargo flight landed in Liberia’s capital, Monrovia, carrying blankets, jerry cans, kitchen sets, plastic sheets, and solar lamps for refugees fleeing violence in Côte d’Ivoire.
The items – from UNHCR’s stockpile in Amman and worth over US$300,000. More aid is on its way.
Clashes between opposition and pro-government supporters in Côte d’Ivoire’s Central and West-Central regions have left at least 85 people dead and hundreds injured.
Over 15,000 Ivorians have fled to the neighbouring Liberia (14,627), Ghana (665), Guinea (367), and Togo (25).
