In Karnataka’s Ballari district, the Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary is located. The sloth bear sanctuary is Asia’s first. It covers 82.72 square kilometres or 31.94 sq mile. Ballari is 50 kilometres away, and Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is 15 kilometres away.

Daroji Bear Sanctuary was established by the Karnataka government in October 1994 on 5587.30 hectares of the Bilikallu Forest Reserve. The government added 2685.50 hectares of Bukkasagara Forest Reserve to the sanctuary 15 years later, in October 2009. The total area increased from 5587.3 to 8272.8 hectares as a result of this.

Apart from the 120 sloth bears, the Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary also has tigers, leopards, star tortoises, 90 species of birds, and 27 types of butterflies, making their stay even more memorable.
